Group Stand Safety Compliance Guidelines

At SchoolPix, we take safety very seriously, especially during our group photo sessions. As required by the ‘Occupational Health and Safety (Prevention of Falls) Regulations 2003’, we have our stands independently checked with a thorough risk assessment to identify and address any potential hazards associated with using our stands for group photos.

We want to assure you that all our group stands are designed and constructed in compliance with the Australian Standards AS1657 – 2018 ‘Fixed platforms, walkways, stairways and ladders – Design, construction and installation’. According to AS1657 Table H1 – ‘Guidelines for fall protection measures’, a railing system is not required between the 0-metre to 3.5-metre height of the platform. Since our 2-tier stands are 0.65 metres high, they do not exceed this height and hence, do not require a handrail system.

We understand that some staff or students may not be comfortable with climbing up on our stands. If that is the case, we urge them to inform us so that we can make alternative arrangements for them. Our team takes every precaution to ensure that the assembly and disassembly of the stands are done safely, and we prioritise the safety and well-being of everyone involved in our photography sessions.

Assembling and Disassembling Group Stands

As ensuring safety is a top priority for us at SchoolPix we have a set of guidelines for assembling and disassembling our group stands. These guidelines consist of the following steps:

• Choosing a suitable and safe location for the stands
• Assessing the stands to ensure they have a flat surface to be placed upon
• Identifying that the area is clear and unobstructed by any objects, such as low-lying branches from a tree
• Setting up the 2-tier stands and checking that all safety measures are in place
• Ensuring that the stands are safe and can accommodate the required subjects.

Assistance For Staff And Students

In order to adhere to SchoolPix’s best practice guidelines and minimise any potential risks associated with fall hazards, the following steps are taken when assembling staff and students on the stands:

• We carefully direct the subjects in the safest and most efficient way
• Request the subjects to organise themselves in height order
• Accommodating anyone who prefers not to stand on the stands in the front row
• The remaining subjects will stand or sit on the stands or available seats
• After taking the photo, the subjects will be asked to file out in an orderly fashion carefully
• Our photographers will offer assistance to anyone who needs help.
